Job Description
Electra is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to support systems engineering activities and IPT coordination for the prototype 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft. This is an incredible hands-on opportunity to make a direct impact on a cutting-edge development program. This position will be based in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Developing and maintaining system engineering processes for the program.
- Leading requirements management activities for the program, including developing requirements, establishing requirements traceability verification matrices (RVTM) and supporting verification analysis and testing.
- Performing safety and reliability analysis, including (but not limited to) Functional Hazard Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Collaborating with Integrated Product Teams to define and manage system and subsystem interfaces.
- Supporting aircraft level processes and documentation, including CONOPs development and risk management planning.
- Providing subject matter expertise, technical review, and mentoring to a broad team of engineers.
- Interfacing with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure program alignment.
Required Education and Experience
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration(or related STEM discipline) and
- 12 or more years of experience in relevant discipline areas (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).
Required Skills
- Experience with the aircraft development process and understanding of aircraft systems and integration
- Experience applying systems engineering methods and tools, including requirements development and system safety analysis.
- Experience managing suppliers, vendors and projects across different functional teams
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently execute the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience leading systems engineering activities on an aircraft platform.
- Experience supporting prototype development programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards.
- US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred
- Licensed Pilot Preferred
Location: Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration this position requires daily onsite hours.

Salary: Electra’s overall salary range for this level is: $100,750 - $224,750
Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
