Job Description
Electra is seeking a Senior Flight Controls Engineer to support the development of the Fly-by-Wire (FBW) flight control system on our technical demonstrator hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft and additional projects. This is an incredible hands-on opportunity to make a direct impact on a cutting-edge development program. This position will be based in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Engineering support in all aspects of the development of the FBW flight control system for the aircraft, including system architecture, hardware, software, and flight control algorithm development.
- Setup of simulation models and test environments for control algorithm verification.
- Providing subject matter expertise, technical review, design guidance, and mentoring.
- Developing subsystem and component requirements compatible with safety, performance, and business objectives.
- Managing functional and physical interfaces between the flight control system and the vehicle.
- Leading verification activities (including analysis and testing) for the flight control system.
- Interfacing with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure program alignment.
- Communicating information about the flight control system design, requirements, and performance between the design team, management, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- B.S. in Aerospace or related STEM discipline and
- 6 or more years of experience in relevant discipline areas (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).
- Experience supporting the development of aircraft control systems and integrated flight hardware.
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Experience with MATLAB / Simulink.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience with the development of FBW aircraft systems, from conceptual design through production.
- Experience setting up test and simulation environments (software-in-loop, hardware-in-loop) for flight control avionics.
- Experience developing safety-critical systems.
- Experience working on prototype development programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures, and relevant industry standards
- US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred
- Licensed Pilot Preferred

Salary Range-
Electra’s salary range for this position is: $81,250.00 – 181,250.00
Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
