Job Description
Electra is actively recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems for our prototype aircraft and our emerging 9-passenger eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) hybrid-electric aircraft. This position focuses on PCB design, test fixtures, electrical prototyping, avionics testing, and system integration. Most work is done on-site with some flexibility for hybrid work in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Support design, analysis, and testing of electrical systems for our hybrid-electric aircraft.
- Support the development of avionics (both in-house and COTS) systems and equipment.
- Understand and use communications protocols for electrical systems such as CAN-bus, ethernet, and serial.
- Support power distribution (low voltage and high voltage), power electronics, electrical energy storage, and electric machine testing.
- Printed circuit board bring up and test
- Build and design electrical harnessing for communications and power across the aircraft.
- Developing test fixtures for data acquisition systems
- Support and buildup of telemetry systems
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace, or a related field; and
- 6+ years of experience in relevant discipline areas or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
- Working knowledge in the area of hybrid-electric and/or fully electric propulsion systems and power electronics.
- Experience in the development of electrical systems, hybrid-electric propulsion and/or avionics systems.
- Proficient with general-purpose test and build equipment/tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, soldering iron).
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet expectations the areas described in the responsibilities and essential functions.
- Organization and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt well to change.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry standards.
- Master’s in relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with implementing and troubleshooting digital communications architectures (i.e. Serial, CAN, Ethernet, and ARINC429).
- Experience with grounding schemes for complex electrical systems.
- US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred
Location: Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration this position is 3-4 days in the office, with some virtual work allowed.

Salary: Electra’s salary range for this position is: $81,250.00 – 181,250.00
Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
